Style File: A Reykjavik Stroll

Published on January 25, 2013 in Style File. 0 Comments Tags: Iceland, reykjavik, style file.

It’s already time for round two of Style File! This time I took inspiration from the Colorful City of Reykjavik, Iceland. I love how the houses and buildings speckle the city in vibrant colors. I envision Lily wearing this outfit strolling through the metropolitan streets of Reykjavik, stopping to enjoy a delicious hot dog from a famous street vendor called Bæjarins Beztu or “best in town”. What a fun day indeed! ♥ Erin

The Northern Lights

Published on January 24, 2013 in Iceland. 1 Comment Tags: aurora borealis, Iceland, nothern lights.

One of the most magical things about Iceland is seeing the Northern Lights. Another name for the lights is aurora borealis. Isn’t that a beautiful name? Say it out loud: aurora borealis. It sounds so pretty! I feel like such a lucky girl because I have been admiring the aurora borealis up above on some very beautiful nights here in Iceland.

So, what exactly are the Northern Lights? The Northern Lights are kind of like giant, sparkly curtains waving around in the night sky. They stretch from one part of the sky to the other and they shine in shades of green, blue and purple. Mom and Dad told me that the Northern Lights are caused by the sun! When the sun has storms, it sends solar winds to the earth and that’s how the lights are formed. I could sit for hours watching these shiny curtains of light dance around the night sky.

Sometimes when I think about the universe, and how big everything is, I feel very small and a little overwhelmed. But then I see things like twinkling stars, the bright moon, and the Northern Lights; and it’s like the universe is giving me a present. I look at the glowing lights and I may feel small, but I don’t feel alone. Everyone can look up at the sky at night and see something beautiful. I’m not the only girl staring in wonder, thinking about the science and mysteries and beauties of the universe. There are children everywhere, looking up at the sky from a different point of view, sharing a similar experience. And right now, this is my experience: the Northern Lights. And you know, tonight, for just a moment, I swear those lights were spelling out my name. ♥ Lily
